What an amazing day we had at the trade open day at Emma Bridgewater’s factory!
On arrival we were greeted with a lovely breakfast and a friendly registration. After seeing other traders literally emptying the shop – I quickly realised it was best to buy a few bits before our factory tour. It was a chance to buy items only available online which I now have in the shop! The factory tour was a real eye opener. Jane, our tour guide was so knowledgeable and had worked on the factory floor before becoming a guide in her retirement Her 3 daughters worked in the factory! The whole process was explained to us and its incredible how many stages each item of pottery goes through. The decorating of each piece is meticulous – and the factory workers work methodically and precisely. The final pieces go through a rigorous inspection making sure each piece of Emma Bridgewater is sold in perfect condition (but individually different!!)
Before lunch we had the Autumn and Christmas product preview. Wow! some beautiful new collections will be available from September. The rich colourful spongeware designs will be irresistible! Then we had the chance to decorate our own plate – not sure either Sue or I will be taken on as future Emma Bridgewater employees but we had a good laugh!!
The Emma Bridgewater story is truely incredible and I can now appreciate why so many of you are collectors. A big thank you must go to Cornucopia who first introduced me to the Emma Bridgewater phenonium.
